The Country Is In The Very Best Of Hands

“Everyone is in tuxedos and gowns at this thing, but the military people are in full dress uniform.”

No Class I:  Valerie Jarett, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, to a military officer sporting lots of bling on his dress uniform: “I’d like another glass of wine.”

No Class II:  “White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee, who was seated next to Jarret, began ‘cracking up nervously,'”  but didn’t bother to mention that the guy wasn’t a waiter.

All Class:  “The guy dutifully went up and got her a glass of wine, and then came back and gave it to her and took a seat at the table,” our tipster said.

I love the military.  For various reasons, some good and some bad, I never served.  I think I would be a better person if I had.

UPDATE: I should give Glenn Reynolds credit for the title.
